Scar tissue management
The surgical treatment of scar tissue, inevitably creating a new scar, may seem somewhat contradictory at first. In fact, even state-of-the-art surgical methods such as laser treatment still leave scars. However, what can be done is to hide the scars in areas such as skin folds, making them almost invisible to the eye.
The objective of scar tissue management is to make cosmetically unsightly scars less visible. Experienced surgeons do this by changing the direction of the scar in such a way that it is parallel to the body’s natural skin tension lines. Moreover, aesthetic improvements can also be achieved by “breaking” long and straight scars (i.e. interrupting the scar line) so that they appear smaller and less visible.
Depending on the type of scar tissue to be treated, scar management should be performed surgically or by laser treatment.
In cases of scar hypertrophy, excessive scar growth can also be inhibited by medication instead of performing surgery or laser treatment.
